Internship - Information Management - 6 months
GICHD — Geneva, Switzerland
Purpose The GICHD works towards reducing risk to communities caused by explosive ordnance, by furthering knowledge, promoting norms and standards, developing capacities, and facilitating dialogue and cooperation. Effective and secure information management tools play a crucial role in improving operations and enabling national responses in mine action. At the forefront of this effort, the GICHD serves as a key provider of information management advisory services and support for explosive ordnance risk reduction. With its mission to equip partner organisations with modern tools and know-how, the GICHD supports national authorities in making evidence-based operational and strategic decisions through modern, secure and reliable information management systems. The GICHD developed the Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA), with the latest version — IMSMA Core — a Web GIS system built on a custom configuration of ESRI’s ArcGIS Enterprise. The intern will assist the Information Management advisors with the customisation and technical development of IMSMA Core for mine-affected countries around the world. Areas of Responsibilities Research and test new AI tools that could improve IMSMA Core implementation with partner countries, with a focus on new AI capabilities that Esri is rolling out across its suite of tools. Support country implementations: build Survey123 forms, clean and migrate data, and create dashboards and simple web applications. Provide hands-on support to ongoing country deployments of IMSMA Core. Contribute to knowledge sharing and documentation of technical solutions and best practices. Qualifications Required Good knowledge of GIS tools, particularly Web GIS and data collection tools (ArcGIS Portal and/or ArcGIS Online, Survey123, etc.). Desired Python programming, including familiarity with ESRI Python libraries (arcpy and ArcGIS Python API). Background and/or interest in humanitarian mine action or a related field.
