Carbon Methodology Specialist Commitment: Full-Time Travel: Extensively to project sites Reporting To: Carbon Program Manager About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled Carbon Methodology Specialist to lead the technical design and carbon accounting of nature-based carbon projects (e.g., REDD+, reforestation, agroforestry, blue carbon) in Uganda. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in carbon standards (Verra VCS, Gold Standard, CCB, ART TREE, GCF) and a strong background in GHG quantification, MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification), and project validation. This role is critical in ensuring our projects meet the highest integrity standards while maximizing carbon sequestration potential. Key Responsibilities Select and adapt approved carbon accounting methodologies for project feasibility. Conduct baseline carbon stock assessments using IPCC Tier 2/3 approaches. Estimate baseline emissions and project removals using GIS, remote sensing, and field data. Quantify leakage risks and non-permanence buffers. Prepare technical documentation for validation (PDD, monitoring plans). Design robust monitoring frameworks for field data collection. Work with GIS specialists to integrate remote sensing into carbon tracking. Oversee third-party audits and respond to verification queries. Ensure alignment with Uganda’s national carbon policies and international standards. Stay updated on evolving carbon market regulations and methodology updates.
