Job Role: Business Development Manager Job Location: Lagos Reporting Line: Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) The Role: The Senior Business Development Manager (SBDM) is responsible for driving revenue growth, securing high-value contracts, and managing key client relationships within the Nigerian oil and gas sector. This role translates commercial strategy into executable opportunities by building a strong pipeline of projects, leading client engagement, supporting tendering activities, and driving strategic partnerships. What you’ll do: Business Development & Market Expansion • Develop and execute business development plans aligned with revenue and growth targets. • Identify, pursue, and convert new business opportunities across upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors. • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospects and projects. • Represent the company at client meetings, exhibitions, trade shows, and industry conferences. • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and industry intelligence gathering. • Drive cold outreach, client prospecting, and opportunity conversion. Client Relationship Management • Build and sustain long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders. • Manage strategic accounts to ensure repeat business and customer satisfaction. • Engage regularly with regulators and industry bodies such as NNPC/NUIMS, NCDMB, NUPRC, NIPEX, PETAN, etc. • Coordinate client visits, inspections, and stakeholder engagements. • Maintain an up-to-date client and prospect database. Tendering, Bidding & Proposal Development • Track RFQs, RFPs, and ITTs using a structured tender tracker. • Support the Bids & Tendering team with technical and commercial input into proposals. • Coordinate cross-functional inputs for high-quality bid submissions. • Participate in bid clarifications, commercial negotiations, and contract finalization. Contract Negotiation & Commercial Management • Support commercial negotiations and ensure profitable deal structuring. • Work with Legal, Finance, PMO, and technical teams on contract reviews and risk mitigation. • Ensure compliance with local content and regulatory requirements. Market Intelligence & Strategic Partnerships • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities. • Identify partnership and alliance opportunities to strengthen service offerings. • Provide actionable market intelligence reports to guide strategy. Team Leadership & Collaboration • Supervise and mentor Business Development Executives and Interns. • Guide opportunity pursuit and client engagement strategies. • Collaborate with PMO, Engineering, SCM, Finance, Legal, and Operations for seamless project transition. What we are looking for: Education: • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, Economics, or related field. • MBA is an added advantage. Experience: • 8–12+ years’ experience in business development or commercial roles in the oil & gas servicing sector. • At least 4–6 years in a managerial or leadership capacity. • Proven track record of winning high-value contracts in Nigeria. • Strong experience with tendering, proposal preparation, and client management. • Experience engaging IOCs, NOCs, and Indigenous companies. Knowledge and Proficiency in: • Nigerian oil and gas industry structure and procurement processes. • Local content regulations and regulatory frameworks. • Tendering, bid management, and contract negotiation. • Oilfield service lines such as engineering, procurement, marine logistics, fabrication, and maintenance. • Market analysis and competitive intelligence. Skills and Competencies: • Strong leadership, negotiation, and relationship management skills. • Strategic thinking with strong commercial and financial acumen. • Excellent communication and presentation skills with C-level stakeholders. • Self-driven, target-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
